The CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 recorded a 61 percent increase in global viewership, according to preliminary figures released by independent research agencies, positioning the competition among the fastest-growing sporting properties worldwide.
A comprehensive report compiled by Nielsen is expected to be published in the coming weeks.
The growth has been attributed to expanded international broadcast coverage across Europe and other key markets, with the United Kingdom and France identified as major contributors to the increase in audience numbers.
The Confederation of African Football also reported that its commercial partnership with IMG led to a 50 percent rise in the number of broadcast partners globally.
New agreements were secured in markets including Japan, China, South Korea, Mexico, Greece and Colombia, making the 2025 edition the most widely distributed AFCON tournament to date.
In South America, viewership continued to grow, with Brazil recording more than 24 million viewers, while Mexico contributed close to two million viewers.
CAF further noted that its media distribution strategy, which included in-house content production and highlights distribution, resulted in a more than 65 percent increase in brand partner exposure across Europe and South America.
Additional figures released show a 50 percent increase in international broadcast partners compared to the 2023 edition held in Côte d’Ivoire, a 32 percent rise in media value for partners in Europe, and a 35 percent increase in overall media rights revenue across South America, Europe and Asia.
Audience data also indicated that more than three million viewers in the United Kingdom watched the final on Channel 4, while Germany recorded a tournament reach of over four million viewers. India emerged as a new market, with more than 800,000 viewers streaming matches on FanCode.
