AFCON day 13: No luck for the favourites as Iwobi's rescue mission turns into a horror cameo

The knockout stage proves the expectations, with Gabon and Nigeria flying home following shocking defeats

Ok, this is the real deal! That's what all of us had been waiting for, ever since day one.

Surprises, upsets, maybe even some shocking results, especially regarding Nigeria's elimination from the competition. Let's skip the chit-chat and go straight to the point and heroes and 'villains'...

Hero of the day and the goal of the day: Youssef Msakni, The Little Mozart

Don't get us wrong - the fact his nickname is very similar to our website is not to blame for considering him the hero of the day. His incredible winner against the Super Eagles deserves applause and a standing ovation.

Not one, two, three, but four of his opponents tried to take him down, but it was impossible to stop The Little Mozart two minutes into the second half. Sure, a part of the credit for conceding that one goes to the Nigerian keeper. However, it's unfair to minimize the importance of Msakni's outstanding finishing.

The guy sent his team straight to the 1/4 finals.

Loser of the day: Alex Iwobi

Someone had to be remembered for the tragic scenes, and the Toffees' winger had nothing but good intentions. But like sometimes in our lives - it ended terribly despite all the right motives. Iwobi replaced Iheanacho in the 59th minute and was sent off after only six minutes spent on the pitch. Ironically, that was the moment that triggered the Super Eagles die-hard mode, but Sadiq and co. failed to avenge Iwobi.
