It looks like the talented forward's tenure in Dortmund is coming to an end

If he were a bit more stable and of better character, Europe’s top clubs would probably be fighting over Karim Adeyemi (23). It’s true that they are keeping an eye on him even now — Arsenal, Barcelona, Inter, and Manchester United are all being mentioned — but somehow timidly, with great caution, as if afraid to make a concrete move. With every new incident he causes, people in Dortmund clutch their heads, aware that it has a significant impact on his price. And there have been plenty of outbursts in recent months. The latest one, on Friday, almost certainly means another punishment for Adeyemi and, in all likelihood, being placed on the transfer list. Because patience has run out. Talks have yielded no results, nor has hitting him in the pocket.

Karim Adeyemi played poorly in the match against Monchengladbach. Early in the second half he became very nervous, received a yellow card, and Niko Kovač — to prevent what everyone saw coming, a red card — decided to take the young forward off. Adeyemi once again reacted inappropriately: showing disbelief, pulling faces, waving his arms, and eventually getting into a verbal clash not only with the coach, but also with sporting director Sebastian Kehl, when the latter stopped him from heading straight to the dressing room.

You can guess for yourself what I told him… ‘Don’t go to the dressing room, sit there on the bench.’ We will definitely have to have a serious talk about this incident. He certainly won’t avoid punishment, especially since we recently spoke very intensively with the whole team about discipline needing to be raised to a higher level”, Kehl explained after the win over their namesake (2–0).

Sporting director openly sided with coach Kovač.

The substitution was completely justified. Karim wasn’t playing well, and he was close to a red card. Such reactions are something we don’t want to see from our players. Nobody wants that — not even the fans. This is unacceptable behavior. I hope Karim is aware of that”.

The team now has a break ahead of the Christmas holidays, while the club’s executives will have work to do. The situation with Adeyemi is occupying those in charge, and a meeting between president Carsten Cramer and directors Kehl and Ricken is expected soon. First, the exact amount of the fine needs to be determined (the last one was almost 500,000 euros, when he was caught with brass knuckles and a stun gun), and then a decision must be made — is it time for the transfer list? The occasional German international has a year and a half left on his contract, and a new one will clearly not be offered, meaning the upcoming January window and the summer of 2026 are the last chances to make serious money from his sale. Karim Adeyemi’s current market value is 60,000,000 euros.
