Ade plotting January comeback

Former Harambee Stars midfielder Kevin ‘Ade’ Omondi is plotting to pull out of retirement and walk back to competitive football in January next year.

Omondi quietly exited the top flight stage in December last year and sunk into darkness after Kenyan champions Tusker opted not to renew his contract.

However, Omondi who was the talk of town at his peak is promising to entertain the fans with his trademark style of passing the ball that earned him the nickname Pass Master.

Omondi was rumored to be on his way to Kenya Police who by then were pursuing automatic promotion to the top league after leaving Tusker but the deal fell through. It is after missing out on the Police deal and the recurring knee pains that he says he elected to hang his boots and concentrate on other things.

The former Gor Mahia attacking midfielder was sidelined for eight months after going under the knife in June 2019, a setback he regretted that took a toll on him.

“After I left Tusker, I was supposed to join Police but we did not agree on some terms. I decided to proceed for retirement after the deal failed to materialize. The effects of the surgery and family issues also contributed to my decision to quit. However, I am planning to come back in January next year,” he said.

Asked on why he is eager for the last dance, Omondi who wants to start life again in the second tier said football runs deep in his veins and wanted to afford his fans an opportunity to watch him do what he does best before calling it a day officially.

The fleet-footed midfielder downplayed suggestions that he was too rusty to last even a season in the game saying he was ready to play for years in as much his body would react positively in training.

“I just want to continue playing football. I still have years to play so long as I am fit. I pray that I will get a deal preferably in the second tier when the window opens and build up my confidence and later move to the top league,” he stated.

Omondi in the meantime counseled upcoming players to stay clear of the mistakes his generation did that cost them the chance of exploiting their potentials to the optimum level.
