Beston Chambeshi has been appointed to try and steer the club out of the relegation places they find themselves in

Kenyan international Duke Abuya will have to make an impression if he is to feature more often in the starting eleven after his Zambian side Nkana FC hired a new coach, Beston Chambeshi, amidst a string of poor results that has left the club in second last position on the log.

Beston is appointed after Nkana’s run of only two wins in the last twelve games played by the club. In an official statement, the club confirmed the appointment of the 2017 AFCON under-20 winning coach for the fourth time.

“Nkana Football Club has appointed former Kansanshi Dynamos Football Club Coach Beston Chambeshi as its new Head Coach with immediate effect. The 2017 AFCON U-20 winning coach returns to the Kitwe Outfit as head coach for the fourth time, the last time been from June 2017 to December 2019,” the statement read.

Speaking shortly after taking up his new role, Chambeshi explained why he went back to the club

"It was not an easy decision to make to come back but I believe I belong to this team and my blood is Nkana, so I decided to come back and help the team," he said.

Nkana’s club acting Chief Executive Officer Kapwepwe Mutale explained that the development was aimed at improving the team's performance and repositioning the club towards finishing in a respectable position at the end of the 2020/2021 MTN Super League.

Abuya’s club is currently entrenched in the relegation battle, as they sit second from bottom, six points away from safety.
