Absolute madness! Atleti and Getafe share seven goals in an insane derby that ends in a Simeone's slot triumph
Reading Time: 3min | Sun. 13.02.22. | 01:07
The minnows were goalless for 11 consecutive away games against Atletico Madrid, before scoring 3 in the first half on Saturday night. Even that, however, wasn't enough for a draw
This will probably go in history as one of the craziest games of the season in Spain!
The match ended in a stunning 4-3 win for Atletico, but it was as mad as it gets, with seven goals combined, three penalties (including one miss), a red card and much, much more...
Before tonight, the city derby of the Spanish capital between Atletico Madrid and Getafe was an actual clean-sheet festival, especially when it comes to the minnows. Getafe were goalless in 11 away fixtures in a row against the Spanish champions ahead of this tie, but then something miraculously happened at Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday night - the underdogs from the suburbs of Madrid scored not one, not two, but three goals in the first half!
Atletico Madrid vs Getafe has been absolute BOX OFFICE tonight! 🍿

When the referee awarded the hosts a penalty nine minutes into the game, we were clueless about the thriller to start on the pitch. The visitors' keeper denied Luis Suarez's penalty shot, and it was just a prelude for a total madness.
Angel Correa broke the deadlock 11 minutes later, and Cunha doubled the lead before the 30th-minute mark. For a moment, we were sure it would be a genuine replica of many previous Atletico - Getafe ties and how wrong we actually were.
In the span of just 12 minutes - from 30th minute up to 42nd - the minnows scored three goals for a smashing comeback, with two of those coming from the spot, through Enes Unal. Both times, it came due to handballs in the Atletico's area.
Quite possibly the most incredible first half that we have ever seen.

6 goals, 6 yellow cards and 3 penalties - 1 missed and 2 scored. A brace for both Ángel Correa and Enes Ünal.
3-3 at the break. LOCURA 🔥#LLL

This out-of-this-world half was sealed with another goal, Correa's brace, to be precise, with the tiny midfielder nailing it on the far post.
As you probably expect, the second half was an anti-climax compared to the first period. One of those rare moments of craziness that served as a sort of spin-off of that early drama was a direct red card shown to Atletico's midfielder Felipe for a ferocious tackle on the rival.
Still, the last quarter of the match brought back that much-expected insanity with Hermoso (meaning 'beautiful' in Spanish) launching a lovely overhead volley to put a cherry on top of this incredible match.
Mario Hermoso just scored a late winner against Getafe to make it 4-3. He has saved 10-man Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone
