Cristian Alvarez, the Argentine custodian, playing for LaLiga 2 side Zaragoza, scores in the very last seconds of the game for a draw against Lugo
The Spanish LaLiga 2 resembles some abandoned cemetery for once giants with a sign 'Here lie the greats of the past' at the entrance. The second tier of the Spanish football hierarchy is filled with slots of significant tradition and achievements such as Espanyol, Mallorca, Malaga, Oviedo and, maybe the most fallen of them all - the 1995 Cup Winners' Cup holders, Real Zaragoza.
Not so long ago, a proper household name in European football, let alone at the Iberian peninsula, has reached its new low with a tragic 15th place on the table. For a club which used to overpower Arsenal and many other European powerhouses; for a hotbed of luxurious, attacking style of play; for a club that can brag about the likes of Frank Rijkaard, Fernando Morientes, Kily Gonzalez, Savo Milosevic, Gerard Pique and many others - it must be a painful downfall.
So when in the middle of this depressive 'new normal' happens something genuinely miraculous and awkward, it brings back the hope of resurrection. And that's precisely what we witnessed last night when Zaragoza's keeper Cristian Alvarez nailed an impressive header to bring a game into a stalemate late in the stoppage time.
The away team were trailing 2-1 at Lugo with six minutes of the added time already gone, but then the saviour stepped up. The 35-year-old Argentine custodian ran to the opposite box and reacted in a manner of a true goal scorer for a 2-2 draw and a deserved euphoria.

But the stats do tell a story of its own - with that late header, Alvarez has become a better scorer than two of his teammates - forwards. Yes, zero goals on their accounts, so no wonder Zaragoza struggle at the bottom of the second-tier.
