Former Aston Villa aimed dig at United's January signing

As much as he tries to downplay it, Ruben Amorim is still on ’honeymoon’ with Manchester United. The ownership are supporting him, the fans are still not that angry (yet) and TV pundits (the vast majority of them) are behind him. The Portuguese's record since moving to Old Trafford in November doesn't make for good reading with 12 wins, seven draws and 10 defeats to his name from 29 games. But, the current mantra at the club is that the players are not good. Heck, even the minority owner Sir Jim Ratcfliffe said so in a recent interview. But after yet another defeat, this time from Notingham Forest, the analysts are turning against ’Amorim’s players’ as well.

Former Aston Villa, Celtic and Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill aimed dig at the January signing Patrick Dorgu and his performance.

“They had Dorgu playing. I could have done what he did! He's wide left-hand side, he's got the ball and you're saying: "Come on! Your job is to take players on. Get at them! He's laid it inside three times in the first 10 minutes of the second half... to the opposition! Maybe it's no confidence, I don't know what it is. But these type of things are all over the field for Manchester United. They have some really good players. Obviously, Bruno Fernandes is a top-quality player. But they haven't enough good players to be a threat in this league. And when I say a threat for Manchester United, I'm talking about getting into the top four“ O'Neill told TNT Sports.

And while former Aston Villa coach was taking aim at United’s player, Ruben Amorim had to explain why Manchester gave up on Anthony Elanga (22) even thou he came from United’s academy.

“We are talking about a lot of front players for Manchester United that are doing right but they had the chance here. At Manchester United you don't have the time. I will not have the time. We have to get it right fast. You are not talking about players that didn't play for Manchester United. 'They were here playing for Manchester United. In here the pressure is too big sometimes and sometimes you don't get time and you should have time for these kids to develop. But for that you need a strong base to support all these kids and if you don't have strong base we are not going to help our kids. They had their chances and sometimes football is like that and the pressure of playing for Manchester United is really big“ said the Portuguese.
