The growing rivalry between the two Mount Kenya sides in the second tier, 3K FC from Embu and Fortune Sacco from Kirinyaga, has taken a new twist after 3K secured the signature of central defender Steve Orare ahead of the bankers.

Orare has been searching for a new home after a dramatic end to his tenure with Division One outfit Kiminini Combined at the start of the year.

He is no stranger to the National Super League (NSL), having played for Silibwet Leons between 2019 and 2021.

During his time there, he helped the club avoid relegation as captain before departing for Fountain Gate in the Tanzania Championship.

His previous stints include stays at Vihiga Bullets, Vihiga United, Soy United, Nakuru Allstars, and Ulinzi Stars.

His versatility and experience at the back made him highly sought after by clubs in competitive leagues, with Darajani Gogo, Luanda Villa, and several third-tier teams keen to secure his services.

However, it is the Embu-based outfit 3K that has won the race, as confirmed by documents in possession of Mozzart Sport and the club’s head coach, Francis Chege.

"We have a deal in principle with Orare; he is one of us now, and the deal will be official upon completion of regulatory processes,” Chege stated.

He added, “It is a new competition, and we expect to bring in more faces as the season kicks off. Our main aim is to stage an immediate promotion to the top tier, which is possible with enough support on our side.”

Regarding their recruitment policy, Chege, who is currently taking the CAF B coaching course to comply with club licensing demands, said, “We are still scouting. We are going to have a blend of senior players and youngsters.”

The former JKUAT FC coach affirmed his faith in the squad that helped them gain promotion to the second tier, highlighting their importance in retaining the club’s DNA and tradition.

We have not decided on players we are going to release, but I trust and cherish the playing unit for what they did last season. Having them in the squad is a plus, but a decision will need to be made before the start of the new campaign,” he asserted.

Apart from Orare, the club has completed the acquisition of Transfoc striker Oscar Juma, who last season netted 14 goals and created six assists, helping the team avoid relegation on the final day of the campaign.

Goalkeeper Ezra Chege also joins the club from Division Two outfit Thika Homeboyz.
