2022 AWCON Draw: Neighbours Uganda land tough group

Uganda who punched a ticket to the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) at the expense of Kenya have landed a tough group with a repeat final of the 2018 edition set to be witnessed in Group C after South Africa and Nigeria were paired together.

The draw was conducted at the Mohamed VI Complex in Rabat, Morocco by CAF Director of Competitions Samson Adamu on Friday night with the competition set to kick off on Saturday 2nd July in Morocco.

Adamu was assisted by Cameroon and Inter Milan forward Ajara Nchout, and Morocco's former Minister of Sports Nawal El Moutawakel.

Ahead of the draw, CAF offered seeded teams Morocco, Cameroon, and the Super Falcons automatic spots in Groups A, B, and C respectively.

Uganda will come up against hosts Morocco, Senegal who are ranked 11th in Africa, and Burkina Faso who are seven places above the Crested Cranes.

2022 AWCON draw set for tomorrow

South Africa will get the chance to avenge the 2018 final loss to record champions Nigeria who have won the competition 11 times with Burundi and Botswana completing Group C.

Second runners up in the last edition, Cameroon will come up against Zambia, Togo, and Tunisia who are ranked sixth in Africa according to the latest FIFA rankings.
