The medal bracket in the women's 3000m steeplechase mirrored the finish at the World Athletics Championship last week

After an impressive outing at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, youngster Faith Cherotich continued her exemplary showing as she finished third in the women's 3000m steeplechase during the Zurich leg of the Diamond League on Thursday night.

It was a copy-and-paste finish from the global event last week as newly-crowned world champion Winfred Yavi took the tape with world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech behind her, followed by the reigning World U-20 champion to close the medal bracket.

Chepkoech took the bell on the lead, but Yavi gave her all in that final lap to get another one better than the Kenyan, with the 19-year-old Cheruiyot fighting hard to keep her third spot.

On the final stretch, Chepkoech looked like she would take the win but a stronger final kick by Yavi after the last hurdle saw her settle for second on 9:03.70 while the Kenyan-born Bahnrainian clocked 9:03.19.

Jackline Chepkoech finished 12th with the other Kenyan in the race, Fancy Cherono recording DNF (Did Not Finish).

In the men's 1500m, Abel Kipsang finished third behind winner Yared Nuguse and Josh Kerr while Reynold Cheruiyot came home eighth.

Kerr thought he had the win sealed but Nuguse dipped his head on the line to claim the first position in 3:30.49, just two milliseconds ahead of the Briton.

National 1500m champion Kyumbe Munguti lasted only a couple of laps before calling it a day in the men's 5000m, a race that Yomif Kejelcha led his Ethiopian compatriot Selemon Barega to a 1-2 finish with Grant Fisher finishing third.
