The exciting youngster clocked an impressive 8:57.24 to make a statement ahead of the Tokyo World Championships slated for Saturday, 13 to Sunday, 21 September in Japan.

The race began with Germany’s Gesa Felicitas Krause taking an early lead in the first 400m as Cherotich sat in fourth place.

The Kenyan youngster soon found herself battling with Kenyan-born Kazakhstani Norah Jeruto, who surged into second position.

By the 800m mark, Cherotich had made her move, overtaking Jeruto to claim second place while Tunisia’s Marwa Bouzayani followed closely in fourth and Kazakhstan’s Daisy Jepkemei in fifth.

At 1,600m, Cherotich showed her intent as she powered to the front, shaking off the field with Jeruto giving chase in second, Bouzayani holding on to third, and USA’s Courtney Waymen moving up to fourth.

From then on, Cherotich never looked back. By the 2,000m mark, she was on course, clocking 5:58.20, maintaining a strong pace that her rivals struggled to match.

She crossed the 2,400m and 2,600m marks still in the lead, looking untouchable as the race headed into the final lap.

With her trademark finishing kick, Cherotich accelerated in the last 100m, sealing a comfortable and dominant win.

Jeruto finished second in 9:10.87, while Bouzayani produced a strong run to secure third place in the same time, 9:10.87.
