The athletes selected will represent Kenya in the Junior Championships set to take place in Cali, Colombia in August.
Just one week after successfully staging the senior national trials for the 2022 World Athletic Championships and Commonwealth Games, Athletics Kenya is set to shift its focus to the junior category where they will hold the World Under 20 trials this coming weekend at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The trials for the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships are set to be conducted on Friday and Saturday 1-2 July 2022 as confirmed by Barnaba Korir, Athletics Kenya’s Director for Youth and Development.
“We shift our attention to the World Under-20 trials to be held this Friday and Saturday at the Nyayo Stadium. The collective aim is to pick a formidable side that will help us defend the World Under-20 title for the third consecutive time in Cali, Colombia from August 2-6,” Korir posted on his social media platform.
You remember this dynamic duo? They gave Kenya her first medals- gold & silver -in last year's World Championships at Kasarani.

In the upcoming junior Championship, Kenya will be looking to defend its U20 title for a third consecutive time after lifting the last two editions held.
In 2018, Kenya claimed the overall award in Tampere, Finland after bagging 12 medals. They then defended that title on home soil when the Championships were held at the Moi International Sports Centre, Nairobi where the junior team clinched 16 medals.
In that last event, Kenya’s gold medalists were Emmanuel Wanyonyi (800m), Amos Serem, Jackline Chepkoech (3,000m steeplechase), Teresia Muthoni (3000m) Vincent Keter, Purity Chepkirui (1500m), Benson Kiplangat (5,000m), Heristone Wanyonyi (10,000m walk).
The lone silver was won by Zena Jemutai in the 3,000m while Noah Kibet (1500m), Levy Kibet (5,000m), Simon Koech, Faith Cherotich (3,000m steeplechase), Sylvia Chelangat (400m), Winnie Jemutai (1500m) and the 4x400m men’s relay team won bronze.
The 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships will be held from 2 to 7 August 2022 at the Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero in Cali, Colombia.
