Anderson Peters also jetted into the country keen to impress come Saturday. The 25-year-old who clinched the Commonwealth Games title, has assured the Kenyan fans and the world to expect a good performance from him on Saturday. Peters beat 2016 Olympic silver medalist Julius Yego last year.
“Am looking forward to competing in front of the Kenyan fans and also to compete against the 2015 World Javelin Champion Julius Yego because I know him pretty well, we have been competing with him since 2017 and look forward to a good show,” said Peters after touching down in Kenya.
Former European women’s 1500m champion Angelika Cichocka is ready to take double Olympic winner Faith Kipyegon head-on in the fourth edition of the Kip Keino Classic. Cichocka will be making her debut in the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event after recovering from an injury that put her out of competition for years.
She recently competed alongside Kipyegon at the Doha Diamond League on Friday, and the latter won the race with a world-leading time. Both athletes jetted back into the country on Sunday morning to prepare for the Kip Keino Classic.
Olympic Games 800m champion Emmanuel Korir will be attempting to set a new national record when he competes in the 400m at the fourth edition of the Kip Keino Classic.
Korir, the world 800m champion, will be seeking to lower the record of Samson Kitur (44.18) that was set on August 3, 1992, during the Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. He holds a personal best time of 44.21 set in Nairobi in 2018.
Olympic 4x100m silver medalist Teahna Daniels (USA), the 2015 Pan American Games 200m silver medalist Kyra Jefferson (USA), North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association 4x100m relay champion Kyree King and 200m Olympic silver medalist Kenny Bednarek are also expected to light up the elite field.
