Light smoke was seen coming from the facility, on Thursday 5 June 2025,with netizens curious on what might have been transpiring at the site.

Mozzart Sport has since learnt that a party went down at the stadium to celebrate the installation of roofing beams, among other milestones at the facility.

“Talanta stadium yesterday was a party after finishing roofing beams,” read a post by Kenya Stadiums, one of the channels that has been consistently updating progress at the facility.

The construction and installation of roofing beams began about three weeks ago, with the last bit being handled earlier in the week.

The beam is a critical step towards the installation of the roofing structure and the canopy, as it provides support by bearing the load through transferring the weight of the roof to the stadium’s foundation.

The completion of the roofing beam also signifies the completion of the stadium’s upper deck which took quite a significant amount of time.

It is this mega milestone that prompted the contractor, China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) to gather workers for a celebration that included fireworks.

With the completion of the stands, the number of workers have significantly been reduced in the the past days, with those largely involved in the ground building of the canopy roofing steel remaining on site.

Talanta Sports City is a flagship project of the government and is viewed as the country's main venue for the the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, which Kenya will host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

Construction of the proposed 60,000-seater stadium began on 1 March 2024 and is expected to be completed by 31 December 2025.
