National 400m hurdles champion Wiseman Were coasted to victory in the Athletics South Africa (ASA) Grand Prix 1 at Tuks Athletics Stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday.

The competition is a World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger event which accommodates most of the athletes who do not feature in the Diamond League series.

Were who was the sole Kenyan in the lineup, came up against South African athletes and crossed the line ahead of the rest after clocking 49.23 seconds.

The 25-year old finished while under pressure from Sabelo Dhlamini who stopped the clock after 50.01 seconds.

Constant Pretorious settled for bronze after clocking 50.48.

While Were had an easy time on the track, the same could not be said on Collins Omae as he finished last in the 400m final.

Were finished fourth during the past edition of the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, England last year.

Meanwhile, former World U20 200m champion Sinesipho Dambile was in a class of his own as he won his specialty, sending a indication that he was on the right track in as far as transitioning to the senior category is concerned.

Dambile who lit up Kasarani Stadium during the 2020 World U20 championships where he finished third in his specialty clocked 20.43 seconds.

He finished ahead of his compatriots Armand Van Der Walt and Eckhart Potgieter who clocked 20.49 and 20.55 respectively.
