The duo of Wafula and Kibet will be seeking to follow in the footsteps of Amos Serem and Simon Koech who secured gold and bronze respectively in last year's event in Nairobi.
Emmanuel Wafula has vowed to uphold Kenya’s glory in the men's 3000m steeplechase at the world under-20 championships set for Cali, Colombia next month from August 1 to August 6.
The 17-year-old clocked 8:42.25 to storm to victory at the trials earlier this month and will fly Kenyan flag in the water and barrier race alongside compatriot Haron Kibet.
With Amos Serem having graduated to the senior athletics ranks after bagging gold for Kenya at the last edition held in Nairobi last year, the burden is on Wafula to keep the tradition going.
"We are going to do whatever it takes to retain our title. We are going to work as a team and I trust God will see us through. I tell Kenyans to be calm as we are under no pressure to deliver," said Wafula.
Special mention goes to U20 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi another junior athlete at the championship Since the fruits of such a project are starting to appear, we will soldier on & aspire to improve the quality of training offered to the youngsters at the grassroots

Athletics Kenya president Jackson Tuwei visited the team at their residential training camp in sports view hotel, Kasarani where he urged the youngsters to fight for the Kenyan flag.
"They are going there as a team and we have urged them to help each other. We are confident they will represent us well and ensure we bag a third successive title. We also reminded them to continue with their studies while also advising them to stay away from banned substances," Tuwei said.
The team set to jet out for Colombia this Friday.
