Marathon world record holder Kelvin Kiptum has died in a traffic accident in the Kaptagat area along the Elgeyo Marakwet-Ravine road, the Nation Africa and several other media report.
The 24-year-old Kenyan who has taken the long-distance running world by storm was apparently driving a Toyota Premio with two passengers on board. One of them was his coach, Rwanda's Gervais Hakizimana, who also died in the accident, as per reports.

After twice clocking two hours and one minute, in 2022 and 2023, Kiptum smashed Eliud Kipchoge's world record by finishing the 2023 Chicago Marathon in 2:00:35. Kipchoge's world record was 2:01.09.
