The country last tasted gold in the event at the 2019 World Championships when Timothy Cheruiyot stood tall on the podium in Doha
2022 World U20 champion Reynold Cheruiyot stormed into the men’s 1500m final at the Tokyo World Championships after a commanding performance in the semifinals on Monday, 15 September.
Cheruiyot showed composure and tactical brilliance, distributing his energy well and sprinting to the top finish when it mattered most.

Starting in fifth, Reynold moved into second position at the 600m mark before trading the lead with Germany’s Robert Farken and Stefan Nillessen through the middle stages of the race.
With 200m to go, the exciting youngster produced a devastating kick to surge clear, sealing victory in 3:36.64.
American Cole Hocker followed closely in 3:36.67, with Spain’s Ben AdrÃan clinching third in 3:36.78.
Portugal’s Isaac Nader finished fourth, while Kenyan-born American Jonah Koech managed sixth in 3:36.86.
Reynolds’ triumph places him within touching distance of reclaiming Kenya’s 1500m dominance on the world stage.

Meanwhile, Cheruiyot, who is bidding for a second world title, also booked a place in the final after finishing fourth.
Running in the first semifinal, the 2019 world champion found himself edged out in a tightly contested finish.
Dutch teenager Niels Laros won the heat in 3:35.60, with Britain’s Josh Kerr (3:35.53) and Jake Wightman (3:35.56) taking the top spots.
Timothy clocked 3:35.61, which was good enough to guarantee him a place in the final.
