Bromfield shared that she and Lyles have decided to leave two front-row seats at their wedding ceremony empty in what will be a touching tribute to her late mother and brother.
The seats will be adorned with photos of her mother, Sandra Farquharson, and her brother, Christopher, both of whom passed away in recent years.
The thoughtful gesture was suggested by Lyles, who knew how much these two family members meant to Bromfield and how deeply their absence was felt.
For Junelle, the pain of losing her mother and brother is especially raw. She spoke movingly about her mother’s support throughout her track career.
"My mom was the only person who showed up for my track meets and would always cheer me on. It’s a sad state of affairs because she never got the chance to see me achieve my dreams,” Bromfield said in a past interview.
Growing up in a humble household, Bromfield witnessed firsthand the struggles her mother faced to provide for the family.
The desire to make her proud played a significant role in her decision to pursue a career in athletics.
Unfortunately, Sandra Farquharson was diagnosed with stage-four cervical cancer in January 2021 and passed away just a month later in February as Bromfield was preparing for the Tokyo Olympics.
Two years earlier, in 2019, Bromfield also lost her brother, Christopher, further deepening the grief that lingers for her. She finds comfort in the idea of honouring their memory at a momentous occasion in her life.
She went on to express how much her love and shared bond with Lyles have grown since their engagement.
“When I think about spending my life with Noah, I feel very excited because I know there is so much the future holds for us,” she said.
On his side, Lyles, who is known for his charismatic and energetic personality, admitted he still feels nervous in big crowds.
“I most definitely will not [be writing my vows live]. I get nervous in big crowds, so I need to write my vows,” Lyles said.
When it comes to the guest list, Lyles had initially suggested inviting 400 guests, but Bromfield quickly brought that number down to around 250. The couple has made sure to include their fellow Olympians in the celebration, alongside a few football and basketball players.
