Kipkosgei's Adverse Analytical Finding was reported by WADA lab in China, on 6 December 2024, off a urine Sample In-Competition in the China- ASEAN International Marathon held on 24 November 2024
Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), unimpressed by his defense, have slapped 26-year-old Kenyan road runner Elijah Kipkosgei with a two-year ban for the presence/use of Triamcinolone acetonide.
Provisionally suspended in December 2024, the athlete's only defense for the positive result for the Prohibited Substance under the WADA 2024 Prohibited List under the category S9-Glucocorticoids- a Specified Substance prohibited In-Competition when administered by any injectable, oral or rectal route, was that he was self medicating.
Kipkosgei's Adverse Analytical Finding was reported by WADA lab in China, on 6 December 2024, off a urine Sample In-Competition in the China- ASEAN International Marathon held on 24 November 2024.
With no Therapeutic Use Exemption ("TUE") granted, he, in his response to AIU, maintained that he had not acted intentionally and that he had no knowledge of how Triamcinolone acetonide came to be present in the Sample.
He waived his right to a hearing stating "I am not willing to do any case and I am ready for any charges", and, in a second communication, he also explained "I don't usually go to hospital rather I go to chemist to self medicate this might be where I got the banned item in my body without knowing."
The period of ineligibility to be imposed is therefore a period of two years, as there is no evidence that the Violation was intentional. His results on and since 24 November 2024,.have been disqualified, with all resulting Consequences, including the forfeiture of any titles, awards, medals, points, prizes and appearance money.
