Rotich, Chumba bag silver in Daegu marathon

This is the fourth medal for Rotich in the race, a first for Chumba.

Former Daegu International marathon women's champion Pamela Rotich raced to a new personal best time in the classic distance as she bagged silver in this year’s edition of the race, held on Sunday 3 April. 

Rotich who headed to the race as the fastest athlete finished second to Eritrean Nazret Weldu who clocked 2:21.56, a new PB, a national record and a course record, breaking the 2:23.28 record set by Kenya's Margaret Agai three years ago. 

Rotich clocked 2:22.43 which is also under the old course record tk finish ahead of compatriot Judith Jerubet who came a distant third in a time of 2:26.17.

37-year old Rotich is a frequent competitor in the Daegu marathon, having won it in 2017 and 2019, finishing third in 2018.

She has also won the Rabat Marathon in 2015 and 2016 as well as the Tallin Marathon in 2019. She is a Valencia Marathon silver medalist from 2014. 

Meawhile, 35-year old Dickson Chumba clocked 2:07.11 for second-place behind Ethiopia’s Shifera Tamru who won in 2:06.31. 

Hamza Sahli of Morocco completed the podium places in 2:07.15, beating Kenya's Zablon Chumba to third place by three seconds. 

Dickson, a double Tokyo marathon winner and multiple podium finisher adds to his list of titles in the classic distance having won the Eindhoven Marathon in 2012 too.
