World Road Running Half Marathon bronze medalist Catherine Reline is sharpening her skills in readiness for the 2024 Copenhagen Half Marathon slated for September on the streets of Denmark.
Reline will be looking to avenge after failing to book a Paris 2024 Olympic ticket. She came in seventh in the 10,000m race during the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon, USA which was the Olympics qualifier.
Speaking after winning the fourth edition of the Moi Kapsowar Girls Charity and Conservation Half Marathon on Saturday, Reline noted that she was plotting a comeback. She won the race in 71:40:0.
“I want to run at the Copenhagen Half Marathon in preparation for the full marathon in 2025. I have tested myself and I believe I have what it takes to feature in the 42km distance,” she said.
Part of preparing for the race include training with former world marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei, Vivian Kosgei and Judith Korir in her camp in Kapsait.
She hopes to venture into a full marathon in the future just like her colleagues in the camp. She believes that she has all it takes to compete.
“I normally train with my seniors and run up to 30 km. I want to build upon this come next year and run the marathon. If my training -mates are doing it, why not me? I believe I have the potential to shine,” she said.
On what led to a dismissal performance in Prefontaine, Reline attributed it to the lack of proper preparation. The race was won by double world cross-country champion Beatrice Chebet in a world record time of 28:54.14.
“We got the message too late and we had little time to train for the trials. Despite travelling for the show, I was not ready,” she noted.
On Saturday, she stunned former Frankfurt Marathon champion Valary Jemeli Aiyabei to win the Moi Kapsowar Girls’ Charity and Conservation race. Aiyabei ran 71:56.4 for second place while Madrid Half Marathon champion Naomi Jebet came in third in 72:04.6
