Rabat DL: Omanyala beaten by Simbine as Wanyonyi finishes third

Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, finished second in the fourth leg of the Diamond League series in Rabat on Sunday, 25 May.
Fresh off a record-breaking 150m sprint in Atlanta last weekend, Omanyala clocked 10.05 behind race winner Akani Simbine, who timed 9.95 to extend his unbeaten start to the season.

2022 World champion Fred Kerley was third, clocking 10.07.
Omanyala’s time was the second-best he has set over the distance this season, as his 10.00 performance at the FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix remains his best thus far.
The Commonwealth champion will now shift his focus to the Kip Keino Classic, scheduled for Saturday, 31 May, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
Elsewhere in the men’s 800m, Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi kick-started his Diamond League title defense with a third-place finish in the men’s 800m.
The youngster, who told the media “not to expect anything big” at the Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah on Sunday, started from behind to only accelerate at the end, finishing in a season-best time of 1:43.37.

Botswana’s Tshepiso Masalela, on his birthday, took the race win, clocking 1:42.70, making it two consecutive wins in the Diamond League after his win in Doha.
Two-time Commonwealth Games champion Wycliffe Kinyamal was sixth, timing 1:44.63.
In the women's 1500m, Kenya's Nelly Chepchirchir kept up her decent start to the season after clocking a season-best 3:58.04 to take the win.
The 21-year-old finished ahead of Ethiopia’s Worknesh Mesele, who also ran a season’s best of 3:58.44, with another Kenyan - Dorcus Ewoi - timing a personal best time of 3:59.25 to take third place.
