The Kenyan becomes the first athlete to ever win three Olympic 1500m titles

That is how you exact dominance!

Faith Kipyegon did not just deliver Kenya's fourth Olympic gold in style, but she obliterated the Games record to win her third consecutive Olympic gold in 1500m.

In a race that Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay went hard from gun in an attempt to bag her first medal of the Games, it was the Kenyan who timed her race well for 3:51.29, a new Summer Games record.

Jessica Hull won silver in 3:52.56 while Georgia Bell set a British record in 3:52.61 for bronze.

Coming off a second-place finish in the 5000m, a race won by compatriot Beatrice Chebet and a silver that had to be reinstated after an appeal, the multiple world champion looked unfazed.

She was in her territory and no one had the key to unlock this race better than she did.

After assuming lead in the second lap, there was no looking back as she went on to win.

Before this race, she jointly held the most Olympic titles with 1976 and 1980 winner Tatyana Kazankina from Russia and World Athletics president Sebastian Coe (1980 and 1984), but now she is the clear holder after her third Olympic 1,500m title.

Susan Ejore, meanwhile settled for sixth in 3:56.07.
