
Oslo Diamond League: Timothy Cheruiyot faces a tight battle against Olympic Champion Ingebrigtsen

Wanda Diamond League action returns to the Norwegian capital of Oslo today when a host of global champions and world record-holders battle at the Bislett Games.
2019, 1500m World Champion Timothy Cheruiyot will be among the athletes who will light up the sixth edition of the Diamond League in Norway.
Cheruiyot will battle against Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who started his season by finishing second in a thrilling mile in Eugene.
The Norwegian will look to take advantage of home soil as he participates in the race.
Ingebrigtsen won the 1500m and 5000m Diamond League titles in 2023 and will face his compatriot Narve Gilje Nordas, the world bronze medalist last year, and Azeddine Habz and Stewart McSweyn.
Another strong distance field is the men’s 5000m, featuring current world record holder Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda, who will be racing compatriot and 2024 world cross country champion Jacob Kiplimo and Oscar Chelimo.

Tight competition is expected from world indoor champion Yomif Kejelcha, world silver medalist Hagos Gebrhiwet, and Ethiopian Haile Bekele, who have all run in the 12:40s.
World Championship fourth placer Luis Grijalva, world indoor champion Samuel Tefera, and 17-year-old teen sensation Biniam Mehary will also be part of this field.
In the women’s 800m, South Africa’s Sekgodiso has the chance to double her Diamond League meeting wins, following her breakthrough victory in Marrakech.
There she ran a PB of 1:57.26 to beat Habitam Alemu and Noelie Yarigo, Yarigo is also in action in Oslo, as is world indoor champion Tsige Duguma, who was second in Los Angeles in a PB of 1:57.56.
Jess Hull, who ran 8:37.18 to win in Sydney in March, races the 3000m against Caroline Nyaga and Karoline Bjerkeli Grovdal.
The event kicks off at 8:07PM EAT.
