Yego will not reclaim the gold he won back in the 2015 edition.

After failing to qualify for the finals at the World Athletics Championships, 2015 javelin World Champion Julius Yego has revealed that visa issues and muscle tightness affected his performance.

Yego’s throw was just shy of the 80 meters mark as he registered a distance of 79.60 and missed out on qualifying for the finals by a whisker.

The 2018 African champion noted that he had a slight muscle tightness but visa troubles which led to the physiotherapists not travelling to Oregon has affected most Kenyan athletes.

“I had some muscle tightness but it was nothing serious, it was bound to happen as we lacked a physiotherapist due to visa issues and you can imagine the jet lag and everything.

The preparations were good, the only problem we had were the visa issues which affected every other part of the world and meant that we did not come as a whole team which really affected the athletes,” said Yego.

Kenya’s performance thus far at the Championship has failed to meet expectations, winning a single gold which came courtesy of Faith Kipyegon, three silver medals and two bronze.

Yego sent a message to the fans following the substandard performances as he highlighted areas that need improvements ahead of the Commonwealth Games slated for Thursday 28 July to Monday 8 August.

“Sometimes we disappoint the fans, we however have to thank God that we are still healthy and sometimes competition does not go your way. You cannot only support someone when they are winning.

Javelin is all about technique and I’m going to focus on my speed which is one of the important things as a javelin thrower. I'm not a strong athlete but when I focus on speed I can do well,” added Yego.
