Chebet, one of the three Kenyans in the final, settled for silver behind Ethiopian Tsegay Gudaf who held off the stiff competition in the final fifty metres to win the race in 14:46.29.
It was Gudaf's second medal in the championship as she scooped silver in the 1500m last week, finishing second behind multiple World and Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon.
Chebet, the 2019 World Junior Cross Country champion looked comfortable throughout and would make her intentions of medaling known in the final 200 metres, running shoulder to shoulder with Gudaf and bronze medalist Dawit Seyaum of Ethiopia.
Joining the pack that was hunting for podium places were Olympic 5000m champion Sifan Hassan and recently crowned World 10000m champion Letesenbet Gidey of Ethiopia.
