Omanyala next competes in Paris on Saturday
Six days after matching his personal best record over 60m in Miramas, France, Kenyan sprint king Ferdinand Omanyala on Wednesday night broke the time scales once again – this time winning the Mondeville indoor meeting in a record time 6.55 seconds.
Omanyala had in the first heat run 6.63 in second place behind Great Britain’s Andrew Robertson before kicking himself on in the final.
Ferdinand Omanyala breezed past the field at Mondeville, France to this time finish ahead of Ivorian Arthur Cisse who was second in 6.59 seconds.
Charles Dobson of Great Britain finished third in 6.61 seconds with Raphael Bouju (Netherlands) finishing fourth (6.67 secs).
“I am delighted of course,” Omanyala said post-race. “This is exactly what I wanted -finishing below the 6.60 mark. It’s a really great improvement and I am looking forward to do more.”
Omanyala had in February 2022 clocked 6.60 in the Meeting Metz Moselle Athlelor to set a national record that he matched in the Miramas meeting on February 3 2023.
The 100m commonwealth champion finished a close second position behind Arthur Cisse who won the race in 6.57 seconds.
Big win last night.

Omanyala shifted attention to the 60m races from last year in an effort to “sharpen his block starts and build the first 60m of my 100m races.”
With running 6.55, you would best bet he wants to dip slightly under.
The African champion over 100m is set to compete at the Meeting de Paris scheduled for Saturday 11 February at AccorHotels Arena de Bercy in Paris, France.
