
Ochieng eyes Paris Olympics qualifying time after sealing ticket to African Games

Experienced sprinter Hesborn Ochieng will look to sustain peak speed especially in the closing stages of the 100m dash heading to the All African Games in Acra, Ghana.

The Kenya Prisons sprinter did it the hard way, dipping at the line to beat the star-studded field for the ticket to the Games set to run between, March 8- 24.
Ochieng clocked a personal best of 10.22 seconds with Stephen Onyango from the Kenya Defence Forces coming second in 10.35.
Meshack Babu from KDF beat Ferdinand Omanyala’s younger brother Isaac Kundu to the third slot after timing 10.36.
With the Games around the corner, Onyango who was satisfied with the ease in which he gets off the blocks said he had a task of polishing his finishing.
“I will have to work on my speed especially in the final metres. I am happy with my starts which have been consistently seamless. I could have done better as far as my time is concerned in day one of the trials but the inconvenience we had in the morning had a toll on me,” said the 32-year-old.
Having clocked a new personal best and made to the team to Accra, the 2021 World Athletics 4x200m relays silver medalist said he wasn’t done yet in lowering his time and possibly bagging a medal in Accra.
Besides looking at the prospects of making to the podium, Ochieng has his sights on the 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualifying time.
Male sprinters habouring the dream of racing in Paris must meet the qualifying time set at 10.00 seconds.
“I am not interested with who will be in the lineup in Ghana. My focus is on the time I will post as it could land me at the Olympics,” added Ochieng.
