Noah Lyles warms up for Olympics with record victory in London Diamond League

The charismatic American stopped the clock at 9.81 to record a Personal Best with the African duo of Akani Simbine from South Africa and Botswanan Letsile Tebogo completing the podium
Triple World Champion Noah Lyles matched his tough talk to cruise to victory in a stellar cast 100m line up in the London Diamond League on Saturday 20 July.
The charismatic American stopped the clock at 9.81 to record a Personal Best with the African duo of Akani Simbine from South Africa and Botswanan Letsile Tebogo completing the podium.
Lyles was relatively slow off the blocks as this has been his Achillies heel but gathered pace after the 40m mark to power through to victory in what will be his last competition before the Olympics.
Simbine who placed second had a decent start to finish with a time of 9.86 which was enough to see him set his Season’s Best but in the end Lyles’ pace was too much to hold off.
World silver medalist Tebogo completed the podium after clocking 9.88 to equal his personal best and also match the Botswanan National Record.
Louie Hinchliffe, Ackeem Blake, Zharnel Hughes, Jeremiah Azu and veteran Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake completed the race in that order.
A star studded line up was drawn including for the race triple World Champion Noah Lyles, British 100m record holder Hughes, and Tebogo.
Former African 100m record holder Simbine, veteran Jamaican sprinter Blake, his younger compatriot Blake.
3000m
US-based Kenyan middle and long distance runner Edwin Kurgat flew the Kenyan flag high with a third place finish in the men’s 3000m with a time of 7:28.53.
He ran behind American Grant Fisher who finished second, clocking 7:27.99 while Swiss athlete Dominic Lokinyomo set a National Record, Meet Record and Personal Best after cutting the tape in 7:27.68.
