The 18 year old ran the fastest time in 2023 over 800m
“All gas, no brakes.”
Those were the words used by Noah Kibet’s new trainer Pete Julien in describing the sensational Kenyan talent. On Saturday, at the 115th Millrose Games in New York, the 18-year old didn’t disappoint.
The World Under-20 bronze medalist was once again on a roll, making a hard move from the gun and didn’t look back – clocking his personal best and a new world leading time of 1:44.98.
With that, Kibet became the first man this year to dip under the 1:45 mark and just the third U20 athlete in history to break under 1:45 in an indoor event.
“First of all I thank God for giving me enough strength,” Kibet told Citius Mag after the race. “Secondly is to thank my coach for teaching me new things and more trainings. I am happy for what I have achieved today. I have achieved my personal best time.
“It’s not easy but am happy to get this at the Millrose Games. I look forward to coming back here next year.”
Two time NCAA Champion at Penn State Isaiah Harris was second with a time of 1:45.64 as Claayton Murphy clocked 1:46.83 in the final podium position.
Olympian and World Indoor Championships bronze medalist Bryce Hoppel could only finish seventh in 1:54.43.

The record-breaking win adds more stardust to the young Kenyan who now holds the U20 Kenyan record in a rich resume consisting of a World Indoor Championships silver medal and a Diamond League meeting win.
Kibet’s last appearance was at the LILAC Grand Prix in USA last month, finishing in a time of 1:46.74.
In other events at the Millrose Games, US sprint star Chris Coleman took victory in men’s 60m final, clocking 6.47 for another world leading time ahead of Jamaica’s Travis Williams.
World Champion Ryan Crouser on the other hand threw a world leading 22.58m to take the shot-put triumph over US compatriot Joe Kovacs. Abby Steiner and Aleia Hobbs were winners of the women’s 600m and 60m events.
