Moraa last came close to breaking 1:56 when she clocked 1:56.03 at the 2023 World Championships

Fresh off her 800m Diamond League Trophy win, Mary Moraa is setting her sights on lowering her time next season as she concludes her 2024 campaign.

Moraa enjoyed an outstanding season, capping it with a season's best of 1:56:56 at the Brussels Diamond League final. This victory marked her fourth of the season and ensured she collected the coveted Diamond League Trophy.

This was Moraa’s second Diamond League title, having first claimed it in 2022, and now she aims for more after reclaiming the crown.

The 800m Olympic bronze medalist, who has yet to run under 1:56, is determined to break that barrier when she returns to the track.

"The season has been long for us athletes, and the weather wasn’t ideal [in Brussels], but we had committed to compete. I’m thrilled with how the season turned out and to bring the trophy back to Kenya,” Moraa told Puravida Sports Africa.

"I remember losing the trophy in Eugene last year, and this time, I was determined not to let that happen again.

I’ve trained well this season, and although I aimed to run 1:55, there were many events. Next season, my goal is to run 1:55 or even 1:54."

Moraa had previously secured wins in Doha, Lausanne, and Zurich, and finished second in Eugene before her triumphant race in Brussels. Her times ranged between 1:56 and 1:57 throughout the season.

She will now head to the ATHLOS NYC event in New York on Thursday 26 September before officially closing out her season.

Moraa last came close to breaking 1:56 when she clocked 1:56.03 at the 2023 World Championships, where she won gold.

Fans will be eager to see if she can run an even faster time as she prepares to defend her title in Tokyo next year.
