Eight more Kenyans in action on final day of Diamond League season

There are hopes for more Diamond League trophies tonight as several Kenyan track stars line up for day two of the season’s finale at the King Baudoin Stadium in Brussels.

On Friday, the duo of Mary Moraa and Amos Serem bagged the 800m and 3000m Steeplechase titles held at the same venue.

Olympic 3000m Steeplechase bronze medalist Faith Cherotich will be the first Kenyan on the track and a lone ranger in the water and barrier race.

The world bronze medalist will come up against familiar foes in Olympic champion Yavi Mutile of Bahrain, and Olympic silver medalist Petuth Chemutai of Uganda among others.

Afterward, three-time Olympic champion and record holder Faith Kipyegon will hope to cap off what has been an impressive season with the trophy when she lines up for the 1500m final.

She will enjoy the company of Nelly Chepchirchir and Vivian Chebet who all represented Kenya in the Paris Olympics.

There will be no taking eyes off the screen as double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet will thereafter follow up in the 5000m, in what will be the final track event for the ladies.

Chebet has had a season to remember on the track and Cross Country, and will seek to sign off with the Diamond League title in the bag.

Former African champion Caroline Nyaga will also be hoping to lay hands on the title. The two Kenyans will face stiff competition from five Ethiopian athletes.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Wanyonyi’s bid for a second Diamond League crown will be severely put to test by the men who have offered him competition throughout the season.

World champion Marco Arop, and the second-fastest man in the season Djamel Sedjati, will all be looking to spoil Wanyonyi’s party.

Commonwealth Games champion Wycliffe Kinyamal will also be in contention for the title.
