He adds to the long list of Kenyan athletes suspended in recent years for use of the prohibited substance
Kenyan long-distance runner Kemei Elias Kiprono has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for the presence/use of a prohibited substance (Trimetazidine)
The 25-year-old was found to have contravened articles 2.1 and 2.2 of the WADA World Anti-Doping Code, last updated in September 2023.
The Tuesday afternoon development means that he will temporarily be barred from participating in any competition or activity in Athletics before a final decision is made at a hearing conducted under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules and the Integrity Code of Conduct.
Kemei shot to the highlights in December last year when he led Kenya to a 1-2 sweep at the Pune Marathon in India.
Kiprono finished the men’s full marathon (42.195km) in 2 hours 16 minutes 5 seconds to win gold, while another Kenyan, Simon Mwangi, won silver with a timing of 2:17:04.
