Krop dominated the Athletics Kenya (AK) trials on the last day,
After missing out on 5000m gold at last year's World Championships, finishing second behind Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Kenya's Jacob Krop says he is ready to upgrade the colour of the medal this season.
Krop dominated the Athletics Kenya (AK) trials on the last day, clocking 13:15.72 to book his ticked to Budapest ahead of Daniel Simiu who came home in 13:16.05.
With that, the duo have their slots assured while third-placed Cornelius Kemboi who put on a fight to cross the line in 13:17.84, will wait for the selection panel to decide his fate.
"I am happy for this win. I was at the World championships last year and competing in Oregon opened my eyes to what needs to be done in such races. With a few changes, we will bring home gold.
This year I decided to run in fewer races compared to last year as I reserve myself for the task ahead and I believe Kenya will have a strong team and we can win," Krop said.
Meanwhile, Simiu who won the 10000m on the opening day of the trials says he will run in the distance the federation decides on.
"Running with Krop is always good. We are able to strategise and that is what happened today. I led for a part and he took over and when the time was right, we knew to kick.
I am happy we both have qualified in 5000m. We need a strong team and this will be such a squad. From now on we concentrate on speed and endurance training," Simiu offered.
