After a month-long pause for national championships and Olympic trials, the Diamond League returns with round eight taking place at the Stade Charlety in the south of Paris, France on Sunday, July 7.
With just days to go to the Paris 2024, this will be an opportunity for the track and field stars to acclimatize to conditions for the Games with 14 disciplines split evenly between men and women.
History was made in three events at last year's meeting with Faith Kipyegon breaking the 5000m world record.
The two-time Olympic 1500m champion clocked a stunning 14:05.20 to cross the finish line.
The world record has since been broken by Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay, who was also majestic in her run at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting in Eugene.
With sweet memories still lingering, Kipyegon will headline the meeting in an attempt to set another record.
This time around, she heads to Paris having secured two Paris Olympic slots during the Kenyan Olympic national trials.
She will compete in the 1,500 and 5,000m races during the Olympics.
She started her season with an injury setback that saw her miss the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen and the Prefontaine Classic.
“Update, I’ve been building in a great way lately for a beautiful season ahead. Some weeks back, I got a small muscle problem that was handled well. I’m now back in full training, focusing on starting my season in 4 weeks' time at the Kenyan Trials for the Olympic Games,” she posted on her social media handles.
The triple world 1500m champion now eyes double gold at the Olympic Games, with the hope of making history in the 1500m with a third title.
“It will be history to win the 1500m for the third time and you know, to focus on the 5000m. I know it’s not easy but I’ll be going to try and see what will be possible. It’s not smooth sailing and you have to work hard and stay patient. Those are the two most important things. I know being patient and training hard will get me where I want to be," she said after winning the Olympic trials.
