The Olympic champion broke the record in Friday last week in the Florence Diamond League

Fresh from smashing the 1500m record, Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon is not done yet as she habours a dream of lowering her time in future.

Kipyegon broke the record last week after clocking 3:49.11 in the Florence Diamond League, erasing Genzebe Dibaba’s record that had stood for eight years.

The world champion had unsuccessfully tried to obliterate the record but fortunes swung in her favour last week, bagging what had been missing from her rich pool of records and collections.

Speaking ahead of the Paris Diamond League that is set for Friday, Kipyegon, insists that she is not done in chasing history as she hopes to better her time in future.

If I stay healthy, I hope to go under the 3:49.11 in future. I don’t know if it will happen soon, it will be perfect. Everything is possible as Eliud always says,” she told the Paris Diamond League organizers.

Kipyegon, is set to race in the 5,000 in Paris where she is expected to come up against three other world record-holders: Letesenbet Gidey, Beatrice Chepkoech and Ejgayehu Taye.

Kipyegon has only contested two 5,000m races to date, both back in 2015, and the last of which was also in Paris. Her PB stands at 14:31.95.

The 2019 world silver medalist said the historic feat enriched the legacy she would leave behind once she calls it a day.

The record means a lot for me in terms of the legacy I’ll leave behind. Being the Olympic and world champion as well as record holder has filled my pockets and motivated many girls around the world,” she continued.

Meanwhile, the Kenyan girl hopes to celebrate breaking the record once she jets back to the country.

I didn’t sleep that night as I returned to the hotel around midnight. I didn’t celebrate but I know when I go home I will do it with my family and the rest of the team back in Kaptagat,” she added.
