The athlete vowed to mine out gold in next year's edition

Reigning Milan Marathon champion Titus Kipruto entered the 13th edition of the Re-discover Nandi road race with an eye of bossing it given his experience in road running.

However, the 24-year old settled for the second place behind Weldon Kipkirui Langat who clinched the first place in the men's category with the Nakuru based Faith Cherono ruling in the ladies' category.

Kipruto rued bad start for the missed target as he was forced to stop for a couple of seconds to fix his competition number for the purpose of identification.

"I made mistakes in the initial stages of the race as I allowed myself to be boxed from the front line. I also had to stop to fix my bib number and thus, ended up using more energy in catching up with the leading pack," he said.

Despite missing out on the top prize, Langat who trains in Kapsabet vowed to make amends next year and improve his time more.

Langat who finished fourth in last year's Rotterdam Marathon said he was conversant with the course having trained in the area for a couple of years.

"Next year I will not settle for anything less of the top place barring injuries and unforeseen circumstances," he said.

Kipruto who used the race to boost his preparations for the Copenhagen Marathon settled for a 17th place finish in last year's event.

Meanwhile, Zenah Jeptoo who finished third in the ladies category also promised to go gold next year.

The 21-year old who represented the country in last year's World Athletics U20 Championships said she was liking the competition at the senior level.
