
Kinyamal scoops gold in Silesia World Athletics Contiental Tour

Kinyamal beat Lewalski to the line while Saruni, Kipruto and Ngeny finished outside the top three bracket
Commonwealth 800m champion Wycliffe Kinyamal showed his opponents a clean pair of heels as he coasted to victory in the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial World Athletics Continental Gold Tour held at the Stadion Slaski in Silesia Poland on Sunday.
Kinyamal clocked 1:44.63 to cruise to victory while under pressure from Polish national Kacper Lewalski who timed 1:44.48 and Daniel Rowden of Great Britain who placed third in 1:44.89.
The highly-rated Olympian Michael Saruni who was the pre-race favourite came in fifth in 1:45.04 while Collins Kipruto faded to a tenth place finish in 1:46.10. Elias Ngeny was second from last after clocking 1:47.80. Olympic silver medalist Patryk Dobek did not live up to the expectations despite racing at home as he was the twelfth athlete to cross the line.

In the men’s 3000m, recently crowned World U20 champion Tadese Worku of Ethiopia stormed to victory in a race in which Mark Lomuket who was the sole Kenyan finished ninth. Worku who ruled the track in Nairobi beat Olympic 3000m steeplechase champion Soufine El Bakkali of Morocco and other seasoned athletes who had lined up for the race.
Worku clocked 7:36.46 while Bakkali who is expected to grace the Kip Keino Classic set for this month at Kasarani Stadium timed 7:37.18. Mohammed Tindouft of Morocco was third in 7:38.92.
Olympic champions Soufiane El Bakkali 🇲🇦 and Wojciech Nowicki 🇵🇱 are the first big names confirmed to compete at next month’s @KipKeinoClassic in Nairobi, the final meeting of this year's #ContinentalTourGold series.

Fresh from his debut in the Diamond League in the Brussels leg, the 2017 World U-18 400m silver medalist and Olympian Mary Moraa finished tenth in the 1000m race won by Jemma Reekie of Great Britain.
