Collins Kemboi led a Kenyan sweep of the men’s podium at this year’s Generali Geneve Marathon as debutant Irene Korir made the podium on her first outing in the classic distance, coming home third in the women’s race.

Kemboi clocked 2:11:37 for victory, finishing 41 seconds ahead of Elvis Cheboi (2:12:18), with Martin Cheruiyot (2:16:32) completing the podium places.

In the women’s race, Ethiopia’s Tsega Desta ran a personal best (PB) in 2:34:43 to deny Fabienne Vonlanthen (2:39:15) a home win.

Korir, who has only three half-marathon results registered, carried a 1:15:54 PB performance from the Kilimanjaro Half in 2024 to the race, going on to clock 2:39:40 to finish ahead of compatriot Winnie Jebet, who came home in 2:46:14.

In the half-marathon at the same event, it was an all-Kenyan podium in the women’s race as Lucy Nthenya cut the tape in a 1:08:59 PB to finish ahead of Winnie Jeptarus (1:09:56), while Sharon Jepchirchir also returned a 1:10:28 PB to complete the podium places.

The men’s race Leonard Kipngeno Bor won in a 1:01:45 PB, leading a Kenyan 1-2 as Brian Kipchumba came home in 1:05:19, ahead of Frenchman Tanguy Benkritly (1:05:51).

Kipchumba ran the race in two different shoes, ASICS & adidas, after making a mistake while packing his bag on the morning of, where he inadvertently took his right pair of training shoes and his left pair of competition shoes.

In another race on Sunday, Andrew Lorot won the Sendai Half Marathon men’s race in 1:01:41, ahead of Naoki Koyama (1:01:58) and compatriot Mogeni Benuel Magoma (1:02:09).

Ayuko Suzuki won the women’s race in 1:11:00, ahead of Kenya’s Selly Chepyego Kaptich (1:11:08) and Yuri Mitsune (1:12:02).
