
Kenneth Mburu wins 10km at World masters in Poland

Germany currently tops the medal table at the ongoing event
This year’s Limuru Half Marathon champion Kenneth Mburu clocked 29:28 minutes to win the overall men’s 10km race by over two minutes at the World Masters Championships ongoing in Toruń, Poland.
The 2:07:36 marathoner who is 50 later this year was competing in the men’s 45-years-and-over category. His exploits add to Kenya’s medal tally in the country’s maiden appearance.

This is the second medal for the 49-year-old at the championship.
On Monday, Kenya scooped three medals, two gold, and a silver with Mburu winning the 8km race.
Former national 20km race walk champion Erick Shikuku won the 3,000m walk while two-time Africa Masters champion Regina Mulatya bagged a silver medal in the long jump on Monday.
Shikuku, who dominated Kenya’s walking race in his hay days carried the same form to the masters’ event for the win as Mburu who elected to compete on the 8km late clocked 25:32.07 for gold.
Mulatya cleared 5.46m to finish second in the 45-year-old category.
Meanwhile, Alastair Walker smashed the world M65 10km record with a time of 34:13 as he won World Masters gold by well over two minutes.
