
Jebitok and Longosiwa bag hotly contested Kapsokwony Cross Country titles

Action heads to Sotik for the third of five legs of the series.
Edna Jebitok and Reuben Longosiwa are the champions of the second leg of the Athletics Kenya (AK) Cross Country series held at Kapsokwony boys high school on Saturday 29 October.
The two won the women and men's senior races respectively with Jebitok clocking 33:57.8 to bag the title ahead of Agnes Jebet and National Police Service (NPS) 5000m Commonwealth Games champion Beatrice Chebet wo timed 34:06.0 and 34:19.9 for second and third respectively.

In the men's race, Longosiwa who lost the season-opening leg held in Machakos on 15 October to Edwin Bett, steeplechase up for 30:05.3 to beat Shadrack Kipchirchir to top place.
Kipchirchir finished second in 30:12.8 while Charles Lokir completed the podium places with a 30:17.4 run.
In the junior categories, Torongo's Ismael Kirui bagged yet another title, having won the Under-20 8km race in Machakos, as he clocked 23:53.1 to finish ahead of Charles Rotich who timed 23:21.9. Kibet Ndiwa was third in 24:34.3.
The girls 6km race went to Joyce Chepkemoi who timed 20:25.5 to finish ahead of Marion Chepngetich (20:28.5) and Nancy Cherop (20:41.4).

The federation is using to prepare athletes for the 44th edition of World Athletics Cross Country Championships set to be held on 18 February 2023 in Bathurst Australia.
AK, in a communication shared on 27 October, said they have started compiling a list of probables drawn from the series and other International Cross-Country events with adherence to the set timelines.
"We encourage athletes intending to participate in the World Cross Country Championships to participate in at least 2 series or any international Cross-Country events.
Any athletes who may not have competed in the local or international cross country events due to other competition engagements can make a request to be considered before 26th November.
Athletes who will not have participated in at least two legs or any international Cross-Country events and fails to request risks not being selected during the National Cross-Country Championships," the communication reads.
