The team boast of having Solomon Hammond who qualified for the upcoming World U20 Championhips

Bruce Okine, head coach of the University of Ghana sprints team has boldly claimed that his side is the team to beat in the men's 100m category of the 2022 FASU (Federation of African University) Games that are currently ongoing at the Kenyatta University in Nairobi.

Boasting the presence of the talented Solomon Hammond who has qualified for the World Under-20 Athletics Championship slated to take place in Cali, Colombia in August this year, the head coach has backed his side to go all the way and return home with the top honours in the 100m race.

"I know my whole university came prepared in all the fields. For my relay team, we came here to pick the ultimate award which is first position. They are all level 100 and 200m athletes. These are the top athletes currently in Ghana and mong them is Hammond who has qualified for the U20 championhips,"

"But he is not even the fastest. He ranks around third, so when we put them together in the relays, they are going to be huge. We had several competitions back home and they won most of them or came second and third when they lost. So it is a very strong team and we expect good results," the head coach told Mozzart Sport.

Hammond on his part was not shy to back up his coach's sentiments as he confidently stated that, despite coming to the country and the continental varsity games for the first time, he is on the Kenyan soil to win.

"We have settled in well so far. In the 100m, I am going to win, that is why I came here," the athlete said.

The Ghanaian team will take to the field on Wednesday morning in the men's 100m and 200m semifinal as they seek to make the finals scheduled for Wednesday.

The University of Ghana Basketball Team are also the team to beat as they are the defending champions after winning back to back title in the 2016 and 2018 editions held in South Africa and Ethiopia respectively.

They will also be participating in badminton, table tennis and tennis.
