She erases Siffan Hassan's record of 4:12.33
The inevitable was due to happen with the ever magical Faith Kipyegon!
With another World record standing in her path (how dare it) at the Stade Louis II stadium in the name of the 1 mile (1600m) distance at the Monaco Diamond League, Kipyegon maintained her composure as she, in the words of the race commentator- 'threw Siffan Hassan’s record in the Mediterranean Sea'- in a ridiculous time of 4:07.64.
Mark you, the aforementioned record - set at the same venue in 2019, was 4:12.33!
That was the level of dominance the Kenyan shown in the iconic performance that had the rest of her competitors surround her with all manner of congratulations.
To put it into context, Kipyegon’s last lap was a blistering 60.01 seconds, coming in front of another 62.56 penultimate lap time.

To say she is legendary, will and should be an understatement, that with her breaking her 4:16.71 personal best over the distance, she now also holds the 1500m and 5000m World records!
The DL points won here, will still go towards the 1500m qualification campaign.
Double joy for Kenya.
Meanwhile, Commonwealth Games gold medalist Wycliffe Kinyamal was at hand to claim a memorable 800m Diamond League win as he powered home to a World Lead time of 1:43.22, surpassing the previous lead time of 1:43.27 held by his compatriot Emmanuel Wanyonyi.

Wanyonyi, who was seeking to remain unblemished in the Diamond League event this year, could only finish sixth, and in a time of 1:44.35.
Kinyamal, who has a personal best of 1:43.12, hung around Canadian Marco Arop after a blistering 49.06 first lap, to pip him in the last 250m to the win.
Algeria’s Slimane Moula came in second clocking 1:43.40, with Arop hitting 1:43.51.
Elsewhere, in the women’s 400m, Commonwealth Games champion Mary Moraa couldn’t extend her unbeaten run this season, as she labored to a sixth place finish - clocking 50.48 seconds.
Running in lane 3, Moraa had a slow start down the first 200m, and struggled to really catch up with the lead group - one that saw European silver medalist Natalia Kaczmarek make a rapid rally late on, dipping just ahead of US 400m hurdles champion Shamier Little in a winning time of 49.63.
