Faith Kipyegon, Mary Moraa bag millions after dazzling at Athlos NYC

The lucrative event featured 36 of the top track stars in the world in six different track events which include 100m, 200m, 400m, 100m hurdles, 800m, and 1500m

Triple Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon and World 800m Champion Mary Moraa brought curtains down on their season in sensation fashion at the inaugural Athlos NYC invitational.

Kipyegon extended her 2024 unbeaten streak in the 1500m to claim victory in 4:04.79, fending off strong opposition from Ethiopia’s Diribe Welteji who stopped the clock at 4:05.58.

Another Kenyan Susan Ejore-Sanders who was the third athlete from the country to be invited to the prestigious event completed the 1500m podium in 4:06.25.

The final Kenyan at the event, Mary Moraa settled for second in the 800m after being pipped to the finish line by Ethipoia’s Tsige Duguma who clocked 1:57.43.

The 24-year-old World Champion timed 1:58.05 while Jamaican Natoya Goule-Toppin finished third in 1:58.63.

Athlos NYC is the first female-only premier track event and was funded by Reddit co-founder and Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian.

The exclusive event offers an unprecedented $60,000 (ksh7.7 million) prize for first-place finishers in every discipline throughout the meet.

Second-place finishers walk home with $25,000 (Ksh3.2 million) while second runners-up bag $10,000 (Ksh1.2 million).

In addition to the prize money, Athlos NYC pledged that 10 per cent of all event revenue would be distributed among all competitors.

The prize money dwarfs what athletes get at one of the most prestigious track and field events, the Diamond League which offers $30,000 (Ksh3.8 million) for winners in the final.
