The reigning Berlin Marathon champion finished sixth at the Boston Marathon in a time of 02:09:23
World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge has sounded a message pointing to a potential comeback on the road, a month after finishing sixth in his first stab at the 127th edition of the Boston Marathon.
In a video posted on his official social media page on Wednesday, Kipchoge described the April 17 race experience as ‘a real disappointment’, reviewing the ups and downs of what ended up to be a disillusionment for the man regarded as the greatest marathon runner of all time bidding to claim all World Major marathon titles.
It's been a month since the @bostonmarathon. Today we reflect on life’s ups and downs, and the challenges that we faced that day. After the race, I received so many positive messages from everyone around the world, that's a huge motivation for me to bounce back. pic.twitter.com/gLuHAKGHem

“I started the race in full gear and in a happy way,” Kipchoge recounted the start to the race. “After about three quarters of the race, my energy went down, and I kept my eyes on the finish line. I crossed it and that was it.”
Kipchoge eventually crossed the tape at Boylston Street in sixth, clocking 02:09:23 behind the eventual winner - Kenyan Evans Chebet - the winner of back to back Boston Marathon titles, Gabriel Geay and Benson Kipruto who came in third.
“It was a real disappointment,” Kipchoge narrated. “You know after injecting a lot of energy for the last five months, preparing well, thinking positive, but all in all, it's a challenge.
“What has happened, happened. We have no control and life continues.”
On the outside, Kipchoge admitted to receiving support from the athletics community saying; “I’ve received a huge amount of support. Very positive from the sponsors, management, the team and the community.”
Looking forward, Kipchoge believes the setback will act up as a huge motivation, steering him to his bounce back.
“That's a huge motivation, life is about ups and downs,” Kipchoge stated. ‘It's a huge motivation that I am doing the right thing and that I will bounce back.”
On the video, shot in association with Abbott and NN Running team, Kipchoge captioned it with the message; “See you soon at the starting line!”
