The African champions are chasing a maiden commonwealth medal.

Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala rose to the occasion, as was expected to anchor the Kenyan 4x100m men's team to the final in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

In explosive fashion, the African champion and record holder received the baton in fourth place and accelerated to the front, finishing behind Nigeria for an automatic spot in the final set for Sunday.

Samuel Imeta was first on the track, handing over to Mike Mokamba with Hesbon Ochieng going third to hand the baton to Omanyala who came home in a new personal best time of 38.92 for Kenya.

The quarter will hope to replicate their African Championships heroics where they raced to a first ever 4x100m gold for Kenya clocking 39.28.
