This is the sixth gold medal for Team Kenya.
Former World Under-20 5000m who also has a World Cross Country title to her name Beatrice Chebet was a cut above the rest in the women's 5000m as she added a third in a season best 14:38.21.
Chebet, fresh from winning silver in the same distance at the World Championships in Oregon, put up a spirited fight against a field that had the Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion Eilish McColgan for a convincing win.

Joined by Selah Jepleting in the starting line up, the two Kenyans stuck with the leading pack leaving the pacing duties to McColgan who was out to pick a double.
Chebet went through the first 1000m in 2:58.7 in fourth place, behind Jepleting who was in third in 2:58.6 as McColgan and South Africa's Dominique Scott led.

Chebet and Jepleting stayed in behind the Scotish woman who denied Kenya gold in 10,000m with Chebet moving into second place at the 4000m mark with the three women already having split away from the rest of the field.
On the penultimate lap, Jepleting took charge of the race but her stay at the bell was shortlived as Chebet zoomed past her and held on with spectacular finishing power for gold.
Jepleting was third for bronze in a personal best (PB) time of 14:48.24. McColgan clocked 14:42.14 for a season best.
