The championship is set for 19 to 27 August.

Olympics silver medalist in men's 1500m Timothy Cheruiyot ran a tactical race at the Athletics Kenya (AK) trials to clock 3:34.01 for victory.

The former world champion who is keen to reclaim his title led Abel Kipsang (3:34.30) and world U20 champion Reynold Cheruiyot (3:34.34) home for the tickets to the World championships.

In a highly competitive race that had national champion Kyumbe Munguti former world champion Elijah Manangoi world U20 champions George Manangoi and Vincent Keter, Timothy's experience was on display as he crossed the line first.

Reynold was in the lead at the home straight but with about 50m to the finish line, the podium finishers were level with the U20 champion slowing down right before the line to finish third.

"Today it was all about winning and making the team. It was a very tactical race and came down to experience and strategy.

We have a good team, one that fight to get the title back home. We now embark on preparations and team strategy ahead of the championships with the medals in mind," Timothy offered.

Kenya had won the last five titles, three by Asbel Kiprop (2011, 2013, 2015) and one each for Elijah and Timothy in 2017 and 2019 respectively, only to be denied in Eugene 2022 when Jake Wightman won and Kenya missed the podium.
